GAME * PLOT * CHARACTERS * APPLICATION

The wizarding world had always believed that when Voldemort died the war would end. Nine years later, this is still not the case.

In 1997, Harry Potter destroyed Voldemort's Horcruxes with the help of his friends, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and information passed to the Order of the Phoenix by Severus Snape. However, the death of their leader angered the Death Eaters instead of making them to surrender, as had been predicted. Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange took over where Voldemort had left off, targeting anyone who had even the slightest affiliation with Muggles, even Purebloods.

Since then, the war has been fought in the streets. Guerilla battles occur in downtown London at midday in full view of Muggles, and only the Ministry's Obliviators stop magic from becoming public knowledge. The body count has been high: Dennis Creevey, Padma Patil, Marietta Edgecombe, Gregory Goyle, Rodolphus Lestrange, Percy Weasley, and Susan Bones are among the many known dead; however, there are those whose bodies have yet to be found.

The Order of the Phoenix still meets at 12 Grimmauld Place. In fact, the majority of its members have moved in; it is one of the last safe places in Britain. Hogwarts is empty, locked up by Minerva McGonagall and Filius Flitwick a year after Voldemort's demise in hopes that one day students will once again fill its halls and dormitories. The Burrow still stands, although to those who don't know exactly what they're looking for, it looks like a hill by the rubble that was Ottery St. Catchpole. The town was destroyed in 2000 during an attack by the Death Eaters which ended up killing Amos Diggory and his wife.

The Death Eaters use Malfoy Manor as their headquarters and, while this fact is widely known, no member of the Order has been able to infiltrate the wards since Severus Snape was exposed as a spy in 2003. Wiltshire itself has been the sight of some of the bloodiest battles of the war, including the retaliation for the attack on Ottery St. Catchpole.

The wizarding world is a world divided. There is no neutral in this war; there is the side of Light and the side of Dark. Even magical creatures were forced to make a choice. House-elves fled from families they had served all their life to join with Harry Potter. Werewolves flocked in from the depths of Europe’s densest forests to join with Voldemort. While there are exceptions to the rule, they are few and far between.

The deaths of their friends and comrades weigh heavily on the shoulders of both sides and drive them to continue fighting.

Backwards is a new, Post-Hogwarts, Harry Potter RPG. Since we're just starting up, we're still in the market for many characters, including Hermione Granger, Seamus Finnigan, Fenrir Greyback, Ron Weasley, Blaise Zabini, Theodore Nott, Charlie Weasley, and Neville Longbottom. FAQ

Why don't you hold characters?
As it says on the character page, back_wards is not about 'first come, first serve'. The mods have had experiences in the past where people continually ask for a hold on a character and never turn in an application; we want to avoid these situations. If you want to play a character, turn in an application as soon as you can.

Can I put a PB on hold?
Sure.

Do you have an age requirement?
Unfortunately, yes. Applicants to back_wards must be 17 years of age or older as the game contains adult content.

Do you allow slash/femmeslash?
Certainly. We treat slash/femmeslash like any other relationships within the RP. Develop the relationship believably and mark any NC-17 posts.

Rules

1) The majority of posts must be made under a cut tag, save for the following:

Please be extra careful to mark all NC-17 posts clearly.

2) We reserve the right to delete any and all posts which are made and do not:

a) fit in with the current storyline
b) do not coincide with the facts of Canon up to and including the sixth book and all therein
c) have a grievous error in spelling, grammar, or punctuation

3) We reserve the right to place players on 'probation' escalating to the point of removal from the RP.

4) All major plot turns MUST first be cleared with the administration, whether they be in the form of jail sentences, sex changes, pregnancies, major illnesses/accidents, or character deaths.

5) Any relationships that occurred in Canon have also occurred in the game. Therefore, any annulment of these relationships must be properly explained.

6) No in-game OOC drama. Period. If you've got an issue with a player, either work it out or take it to me. People bicker from time to time and that's understandable, but try to act like grown-ups and work it out. At the very least, keep any drama in the game with the characters, please. They're the only ones who need to be having big blow-ups here.

7) No power playing. If another character and you have worked out that your character attacks them in the office with a nasty set of jinxes, that's fine. Roll with that. But if someone comes to us and tells us you're controlling their character without their permission, we're not going to be impressed.

8) No Mary Sues/Gary Stus or OCs allowed.

9) When in doubt, ask. We're not going to think you're stupid for asking questions. If you knew how many times on a daily basis we make fools out of ourselves, you'd be surprised, so even if it seems dumb, just ask. There's probably someone else who wants to know the same thing.

10) You may play no more than three characters at a time. Trust us, it's for your own good.

11) No *actions* or emoticons (ie: :D) in journal posts or comments. No OOC posts in the RP or in journals. Any comments or player communication can be done in the OOC community, or through e-mail or IMs. Any posts containing any of these things will be deleted.

12) Posts in the actual RP must be made in third person, past tense, and written as if you were telling a story. Please check the spelling of all your posts.

13) No cliques. This is, arguably, the most important rule. We know you like some people more than others, and honestly, if a bunch of you get on like a house on fire, good for you. We don't want people being left out because you would prefer to do things with your friends. This is a game, let's try to have fun!
